G&S Sporting Goods is a hallmark of New York City’s Lower East Side. Their specialty: Their own line of Boxing Equipment. The small family-run store was opened in 1937 by local boxing champ Izzy Zerling, now 96. Izzy’s son, Len took over in 1957 and has managed to keep the store afloat despite all the neighborhood changes.
The Lesson here: Family is important.
PenTales went to G&S Sporting Goods on Essex Street to talk to Len about the store, his dad and the art of survival. Listen to the story here!
